A World Between Two Worlds

Four letters. Four screaming, colorful, wild, party loving letters. Four discriminated, shunned, laughed at letters. Four letters: LGBT.

The “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender” people, or commonly known as LGBTs, are definitely enjoying the limelight. The truth about their personalities, the rainbows they carry everywhere they go, the nonstop partying, the pain they suffer for every heart-tearing words, the discrimination they are still fighting… these are not taboo to us anymore. These are no longer issues to shun.

No to Discrimination

There is no denying of how LGBT discrimination is rampant here in the Philippines. There are cases were they are not heard nor appreciated no matter how much support they wield. Take one instance when the government denied the LGBTs to create their own partylist, the LADLAD. Being treated worse than a human living in the lowest subhuman conditions, the COMELEC even called the gay party IMMORAL.  But aren’t we all the same? The electoral sabotage. The ZTE NBN deal. The fertilizer scam. The countless years of their gaining the upper hand.
But what we do not realize is that we are all humans. Humans who deserve what are for humans. We are people who have our own identity, who have that single unique place where our hearts will always be. That will always be the bottomline.
Prejudices. This is the root, the sole cause of their misery. We should stop thinking about what we know. Give yourself a chance to a wider world, a much more colorful one. A world where everybody is welcome, a world that is truly a world, a world with flying colors.
